A FINE THANGKA OF TSONGKHAPA, 18TH-19TH CENTURYTibet. Distemper and gilt on canvas. Seated in dhyanasana on a lotus base set in a bank of clouds with his hands in dharmachakra mudra, clad in heavy robes and flanked by lotus blossoms at the shoulder supporting the sword and book, the face with a serene expression surmounted by a pointed cap and backed by a nimbus, framed by two of his scholars, wrathful deities, lamas, and taras, all within a mountain landscape.Inscriptions: To the reverse, ‘Om Ah Hum’.Provenance: From a private collection in Vienna, Austria.Condition: Good condition with minor wear, little soiling, small losses, creasing, two old repairs to the reverse.
