这件北宋定窑大碗胎质细腻，器形端庄，碗内划花线条流丽生动，釉面柔润，色呈牙白悦目，聚处若泪痕而色略深，久历千年风霜，朴淳如昔。与此碗相类之传世品寥寥可数，私人藏例更是绝无仅有，足证其珍。早于1949年，此碗已属著名收藏家艾弗瑞·克拉克伉俪(Alfred and Ivy Clark)之雅蓄，见于多个重要展览。1971年3月2日，伦敦苏富比拍卖上，拍出49000英镑，成为该场拍卖最高成交价。
