王时敏的绘画成就实在太高，其书法为画名所掩。其实他诸体皆善，其中隶书成就颇大，与朱彝尊、郑簠被称作“清初三隶”。“扬州八怪”中金农、郑板桥等人书法风格的形成都受到了他的影响。王时敏的隶书早期受到唐隶的影响，取法《受禅碑》、《夏承碑》，布局均匀、点画沉厚字形方整，用笔间常夹杂楷法，八十岁以后达到“人书俱老”的境界，风格直追秦汉。
