A RARE TSUISHU LACQUER NETSUKE OF A CATUnsignedJapan, 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868)Finely carved and lacquered in tsuishu (red lacquer) as a fat reclining cat lifting its right front paw to its mouth and eating in a somewhat anthropomorphic manner. The domestic cat wears a knotted collar, its tail curls around over its back, and the fur is neatly incised. The circular base with a concentric band of asanoha incision work which is continued on the underside.
