The restrained elegance of the table is achieved through the 'four corner's flush' construction simianping, where the legs are set flush to the table top and joined by carved spandrels that add stability and strength. This design type first emerged in the Song dynasty and was considered amongst the most attractive types of furniture in the Ming period.Compare with a related waistless zitan table, Ming dynasty, illustrated by Grace Wu Bruce, Ming Furniture, Hong Kong, 1995, pl.3. A related zitan corner-leg table, mid-Qing dynasty, was sold at Christie's New York, 14 October 2020, lot 9.is_parse: 20230413image: yuzhan_bonhams_item.jpgsold_price_type: £
