A SMALL BURMESE RED AND BLACK LACQUER BETEL-BOX AND COVER Of cylindrical form, the exterior decorated using the yun technique with the ku-nan kan-byat to the cover and sides, all on a finely-incised green 'basketry' pattern over a black lacquer ground, the cover lifting off to reveal a tray, 8.6cm diameter, 7cm high (3) - PROVENANCE: Collection of Prospect Burma; donated by Elizabeth Barraclough, OBE in May 2004. Elizabeth Barraclough (1912-2006) worked in the British Foreign Service, and was posted to Singapore and Canton before being re-assigned to Burma, where she lived in the then-capital Rangoon.
