A WHITE AND RUSSET JADE ‘CURLS AND TAOTIE MASKS’ RING, HUAN, QINGChina, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). Meticulously crafted in the style of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, achieved entirely through manual carving. The elegant ring is carved with small raised and joined curls, additionally, on each side there are two finely carved taotie-masks. The stone of white and ochre tones with russet inclusions. Items of personal adornment became popular in China during the Eastern Zhou period, when such rings were used together with other jade ornaments in the composition of pectorals and other types of articulated pendants. In the Chinese traditional terminology such rings, which present a fairly large central perforation and a reduced surface for decoration, are labelled huan.Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and a tiny chip. Provenance: Estate of Wolfgang Zacke (1942-2022), co-founder of Galerie Zacke, thence by descent. Acquired in the Hong Kong antiques market in the early 1990s. Weight: 34 g Dimensions: Diameter 5 cm
