AN ARCHAISTIC FIRE-GILT COPPER REPOUSSÉ FIGURE OF A MYTHICAL BEASTChina, style of the Tang dynasty - dating to the late Qing dynasty (1644-1912) or slightly later. The recumbent ram-like animal with a pair of long curled horns, stylized wings and scrolling limbs protruding from each side, its feet tucked underneath the body with the head looking straight ahead, and its tail forming a spiral. The figure set on a rectangular base and the body decorated with neatly incised archaistic patterns.Condition: Good condition with traces of wear and age, rubbing to the gilt, warping, and areas of malachite, and cuprite encrustations. Provenance: Estate of Wolfgang Zacke (1942-2022), co-founder of Galerie Zacke, thence by descent.
