RARE PAIRE D'ASSIETTES EN PORCELAINE WUCAIÉpoque Kangxi(1662-1722)A RARE PAIR OF WUCAI 'CARP' DISHESKangxi (1662-1722)Each painted to the centre with two carp in iron-red, one swimming and the second vigorously leaping from the water, with scattered lotus and arrow-weed, picked out in green, yellow enamels and iron-red and underglaze-blue, the well decorated with six additional leaping carp, all depicted in iron-red, amid aquatic weed and floating blossoms, the exterior similarly decorated.Each 20.6cm (8 1/4in) diam. (2).Provenance: 清康熙 五彩蓮池魚藻紋對盤Dishes decorated with this design are moremonly inscribed with the four character markZai chuan Zhi le (Rejoicing in the stream) which refers to the design of carp leaping in a pond. Examples are in several museum collections including one in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated inTheplete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum. A pair of wucai 'carp' dishes from the Jingguantang Collection withZai chuan Zhi le marks were sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 5 November 1997, lot 875; a second pair were sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 11 April 2008, lot 2966.
