青花釉里红创烧于元，由于青花与釉里红二者呈色温度交集很小，而且釉里红的呈色剂氧化铜极易挥发，因此自创烧之初，青花釉里红器物就极难烧造成功，成品率极低，在明代中晚期甚至几近绝迹。到了康熙朝，青花釉里红的烧造才又一次出现，康熙四十四年，江西巡抚郎廷极开始督理景德镇窑务，在他的主持之下，伴随着“郎窑红”、“豇豆红”等高温铜红釉的烧造成功，青花釉里红的烧造技术终于日臻成熟。
