Robert Farrier, British 1796-1879- Dressing Up; pencil and watercolour on paper, signed with initials 'RF' (lower right), 21 x 15.8 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Farrier lived in Chelsea, London. He first exhibited his portrait miniatures at the Royal Academy in 1818, and in 1819 exhibited the first of a series of humorous pictures, depicting domestic subjects, and especially scenes from schoolboy life. These were popular and a number of them were engraved. One of his pictures, 'The Parting', was presented after his death to the South Kensington Museum [V&A Museum no.229-1879]. His sister, Charlotte Farrier (1796-1882), was also an artist. She had a large practice as a miniature-painter and was a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Academy.
