胭脂红釉是发明于雍正时期，雍正帝最爱的颜色。而实际情况根据文献资料发现，这种金红釉在1682年，康熙二十一年它就从西洋传入景德镇了，最早是在康熙晚期创烧的珐琅彩瓷器上已经用到了这种胭脂红的釉彩。 胭脂红釉为清代创烧的著名低温色釉，也是清宫色中最尊贵的品类之一，以其色泽娇嫩而闻名海内外。创烧于清康熙晚期，雍正乾隆时期盛行。其以金为着色剂，用吹釉之法施釉，经800℃低温烘烧而成，其色如仕女化妆所用之胭脂，故名。陈浏《陶雅》谓之：［华贵中之佚丽者也，赞日：［匀净明艳，亡伦比。紫晶逊其鲜妍，玫瑰无其娇丽。
