作者简介：曾国荃(1824-1890)，字沅甫，号叔纯。湖南湘乡白杨坪(今属湖南省娄底市双峰县荷叶镇)人。晚清军事将领，湘军首领之一。为两江总督曾国藩的四弟，因在族中排行第九，故人称“曾九”或“曾九帅”。因善于挖壕围城有“曾铁桶”之称。曾国荃在为清廷平定太平天国的过程中表现突出。但他及部下湘军因在平定天国中嗜杀成性、侵吞财宝的行为，招致后世的猛烈抨击。遗著有《曾忠襄公奏议》等，今人辑有《曾国荃全集》。
