执壶，最初的造型是由青铜器而来，南北朝早期的青瓷当中，已经完成了这种执壶的造型。其后在唐宋两代是金银器中的一种酒具，这从唐宋绘画上是很容易看到的。直到现在，还有宋代青白瓷的执壶流传下来。明代青花执壶，采用了金银器执壶造型的优点，安定、秀美而灵活。因为瓷的质料和青花绘画的关系，青花执壶显得高妙隽雅，正如明代同形状的雕漆器‘仙盏瓶’一样，能够唤起一种梦幻感觉。
