定窑是宋代著名瓷窑之一，以产自瓷而驰名。宋代是定窑的发展时期，产量、质量及制作工艺较五代又有明显提高。定窑瓷器多为白釉，亦有少量的黑釉、酱釉、褐釉、绿釉等品种。宋代白釉颜色偏黄，唐代定窑白釉呈色偏青，在造型曲线转折变化的积釉处，常呈现较明显的青白色。这是区别唐宋定窑白瓷的重要依据，刻花是宋代流行的一种装饰技法，北宋定窑刻花以其线条纤细流畅、刀法娴熟精湛而为宋代刻花之冠。花纹轮廓线的一侧呈单线，另一侧呈双线，双线由外粗内细的线条组成，这种以复合线组成的刻花是定窑刻花器的一大特征。
