有印石三寶之稱的雞血石由「地」和「血」兩部組成。一般認為「血」的礦物成分主要是辰砂。 「地」的成分，如昌化雞血石，其「地」的礦物成分以黏土礦物中的地開石為主，也含有相當量的高嶺石、明礬石、埃洛石、石英、黃鐵礦等。在早期，古代文人雅士及官僚就採用雞血石製作印章，是極富盛名的章料奇石。
