肖建初，原名朴，1910年11月出生于四川德阳，2002年2月逝世。他是中国著名的国画艺术家和美术教育家，四川美术学院的教授。肖建初自幼受到中国传统文化的熏陶，1928年肄业于成都美术专门学校，后转入上海中华艺术大学国画专业学习。1933年曾在德阳担任中小学教员，1936年起在北京私立高级艺术学校任教，期间师从张大千，成为其入室弟子。
