低温铁黄釉瓷器创始于明朝初期，鼎盛时期在弘治一朝，黄色如鸡油一般娇艳、柔媚。明清两代的黄釉只有皇家才能使用。清代规定里外黄釉为皇太后，皇后使用,里白釉外黄釉为皇贵妃使用，黄地绿龙为贵妃使用，嫔妃,贵人则不许使用黄釉瓷器，只准用绿釉紫龙器和绿釉红龙器。而黄釉青花创烧于宣德年间，将黄釉施于烧成的青花器上，然后低温烘烧而成。
