此碗整体造型规整，于口缘装饰铜边棱，极为精致美观，以此装饰风气于宋代十分盛行。元代刘祁在《归潜志》一书中提有：「定窑花瓷瓯，颜色天下白」之赞誉。然本器施牙白色釉，并于细薄润滑的釉白中隐微闪黄，予人以莹润恬静之美感。 清乾隆为表爱好宋瓷品味，常藉由御览时特命清宫造办处「配木座」或「绘制陶瓷对照之图册」，如今台北国立故宫博物院所藏宋〈定窑白瓷划花莲花纹碟〉，其所配木座镌刻「古稀天子御玩」与「宋定窑莲花碟」，并加以绘制《珍陶萃美》之四作为「以诗为记」对照图，藉以传达乾隆皇帝对陶瓷历史知识与鉴赏观点，寓意其中的处世为君之道。
