A THANGKA DEPICTING TAKLA MEBAR, A WRATHFUL GUARDIAN OF THE BON TRADITION, Northwest Nepal, Dolpo, 18th ct. Tempera on cotton cloth, black ink inscription on the back. Here shown in red with a terrifying face and the third eye, crowned with a triple skull scrown, his stretched out hands holding the skin of a demon, with an elephant skin around the shoulders and a tiger pelt around the waist, around his neck with heavy golden jewellery, snakes as well as severed human heads, standing on a base made of a solar disc upon a lotus altar. Surrounded by depictions of Küntu Zangpo, supreme deity from whom all wisdom emanates, Tönpa Shenrap, and other Siddhas of the Bon school, as well as demons of the drisa, nöjin, luwang, shinje, and dregspa.
