Pre-Columbian, Mexico and northern Central America, Mayan Territories, Late Classic, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A beautifully-carved, cream-colored shell formed into three panels that together form a human figure in profile. The figure wears a horned headdress, with horns often being an indication of shamanism. These shell panels were most likely inlaid into a piece of wood that rotted away long ago. Leff Collection - a famous collector from Uniontown, Pennsylvania; Pieces from his collection have been exhibited at the Carnegie Museum of Art and the Frick Art Museum. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. We ship worldwide and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience. #132526
