A pair of armorial soup plates
Circa 1720-35Each enamelled with the arms of Harcourt impaling Vernon, flanked by lions rampant and topped with a viscount's coronet, the motto reads LE BON TEMPS VIENDRA (The prosperous time will come), within sprays of flowers and diaper bands in underglaze blue.Each 23cm diameter (2).
|Provenance: each bearing paper labels from Francis L.Dickson Collection.The arms are those of Simon Harcourt (1661-1727), who was created baron Harcourt in 1713 and Viscount Harcourt in 1721. He married for the third time on 30 September 1724 in Oxfordshire. His wife was Elizabeth Vernon (1678-1738), the daughter of Sir Thomas Vernon of Twickenham Park.
