Edo period (1615-1868), mid-19th centuryThe frog surreptitiously stalking a large crab resting on a tightly folded lotus leaf, a smaller crab hiding in the folds of the leaf, which bears a curled stalk, forming the himotoshi, the wood bearing a good patina; unsigned. 4.8cm (1 7/8in).
