Muromachi (1333-1573) or Momoyama (1573-1615) period, 16th centuryA turned-wood heishi (ritual sake bottle) of standard Negoro-lacquer form, painted in red lacquer on a black-lacquer ground with two cranes, pine and bamboo, and with smaller plants around the foot; with an inscribed wooden storage box. 41.5cm (16¼in) high, internal cavity 20.7cm (8¼in) deep.
