Edo period (1615-1868) or Meiji era (1868-1912), mid-late 19th centuryKakejiku (vertical hanging scroll) in yokomono (horizontal) format; ink and colours on silk in silk mounts, depicting three men and a woman preparing mochi (rice cakes), with signature Zen Hokusai Iitsu hitsu and a seal, with remnants of a label from Keppel and Co., New York stating that the scroll was from the collection of the American artist John LaFarge, who visited Japan in 1886; with a wooden storage box.
