A silver cigar box given to Mr. Marcel Baudez from the Chinese Government in 1939. This silver cigar box has a three-clawed dragon surrounding an engraving on the lid. The engraving states, " M. Fu Siao En, Maire, de la Municipalite Chinoise Du Plus Grand Shanghai, A Monsieur Le Consul General Marcel Baudez, En Souvenir De Son Sejour A Shanghai, 1939." There are two three-clawed dragons wrapped around the sides of the box. The silver is lightly textured behind the dragons and their scales and whiskers are well defined. The bottom of the box is wooden and the inside is lined with wood. Dimensions are: 4 5/8 inches high X 9 1/4 inches long X 7 1/8 inches wide. All measurements are approximate. Biography Note: Marcel Baudez was Consul General in Shanghai from November, 1938 to May, 1940 and had been active in Shanghai since 1935. When World War II began, France fell under Nazi rule and Mr. Baudez was relieved of his post. The French citizens living in Shanghai were considered to be under the rule of the Vichy government. Baudez was well-versed in the culture and language of China. Condition: It is in good condition. Inside, the wood is splitting slightly in one corner. Provenance: From
