A Chinese wooden statue of Guanyin (Kannon) "the Buddha of Mercy", depicted here in flowing robes with an upturned vase. The wood was sealed in red paint/ lacquer then gilded (both these layers have worn irregularly over time, as is common with religious statues of this time period). H: 25" (63.5cm) Condition: There is a crack along the left ride of the robe, and several other cracked segments on the rear face of the statue. Both the gilt layer and the red lacquer/ paint under it have worn irregularly, which is expected of statues from this time period.
