A BURMESE LACQUERED WOOD SCULPTURE OF A CROWNED BUDDHA, 19TH TO FIRST HALF OF 20TH CENTURYLacquered woodBurma, 19th to first half of 20th centuryA sculpture of a tall but very slender Buddha with a youthful face and a princely yet amused smile. The striking crown has five points but has no connection to the usually five-pointed crowns of the transcendental Buddhas in Mahayana. The expressive hand position is quite remarkable, the raised hand showing the abhaya mudra and the other showing the varada mudra, however each combined with the vitarka mudra and the right hand possibly even with the cincihna mudra. Rectangular lotus base.Dimensions: HEIGHT 96.2 CMCondition: Some age-related wear, few remnants of gildingProvenance: Galerie Zacke archive
