A VERY LARGE SÈVRES-STYLE BISCUIT PORCELAIN GROUP OF 'LE TRIOMPHE DE LA BEAUTÉ', late 19th Century, after the original by Louis-Simon Boizot, Venus seated in her shell chariot atop a large rocky outcrop, her robes billowing behind her, attended by three winged putti bearing garlands of flowers, two further putti to the reverse holding doves, her two female attendants adorning swans with flowers, the base with reeds and flowers, with gilt-metal mounts, 51cm high, indistinctly signed to the reverse, impressed pseudo-Sevres 'LL' monogram to the underside (typical minor chips to flowers, minor restoration to wings of one putto and some flowers to the base)Literature: For the original Sèvres group, manufactured in 1776, see the example in the Cité de la Céramique museum in Sèvres, France, accession no. MNC7979. The original is also illustrated by E. Bourgeois and G. Lechevallier-Chevignard, 'Le Biscuit de Sèvres: Recueil des modèles de la Manufacture de Sèvres au XVIIIe Siècle', vol.I, cat.589. The group appears to be after a mid-17th Century oil painting by Francesco Albani (Italian, 15781660), 'Trionfo di Galatea', which recounts the myth of the nymph Galatea, which Ovid had borrowed from the Sicilian poet Theocritus and narrated in his Metamorphoses; see Ulrich Pietsch, Schwanenservice, Meissener Porzellan für Heinrich Graf von Brühl (2000), p.63, pl.47.
