2nd-4th century AD. A silver cochlearia spoon with lyre-shaped bowl, ribbed rear shank joined to a ram's head finial and balustered handle with ram's hoof finial. Cf. Riha, E. & Stern, W.B. Die Römischen Löffel aus Augst und Kaiseraugst, Forschungen in Augst 5, 1982, item 266 for type. 37.5 grams, 16.5cm (6 1/2"). Property of a gentleman; acquired in the late 1960s-early 1970s.
