A silver finger ring comprising a broad D-section hoop flaring to an ellipsoid plaque with cell, inset red jasper intaglio of Sol (Greek Helios) with radiate crown; provincial workmanship. Cf. Ruseva-Slokoska, L. Roman Jewellery, Sofia, 1991, item 191 for type. 15 grams, 29mm overall, 25.01x19.20mm internal diameter (approximate size British S, USA 9, Europe 20.0, Japan 19) (1 1/4"). Property of a London collector; acquired on the London market, 1990s-2000s. Fine condition. A large wearable size.
