Description
Translation provided by Youdao
6th-8th century AD. A gold buckle assemblage comprising: a hollow elliptical loop with ribbed outer surface, waist to the rear; similarly formed tongue with forward end curved over the loop, rear with sheer face, attached to the loop by a hoop with hinge closure. 41 grams, 51mm (2"). Private collection, London, UK; formed 1970s-1980s. Accompanied by X-Ray Fluorescence metal analysis certificate number 00527-2015BB. The buckle shares many characteristics with examples from the post-Roman barbarian West and it is possible that it was made by one of the Germanic tribes who settled in the former Roman Empire and traded into the eastern Byzantine realms. Very fine condition.
