12th-8th century BC. A group of two bronze stamp seals, both with handles in the form of addorsed bird profiles, comprising: one with discoid base with unidentified design, the back rising with tapering bifurcated neck and two bird profiles, each with applied eye and pointed beak, one with comb, suspension hole to the neck; and one of similar design, accompanied by a typed and signed note by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, face: 14.5 x 17mm, Back: 39 x 42mm. The face is oval and convex, with a coarse design of five strokes. the back rises steeply via two ridges to the base of a neck with two bird heads superimposed, with a hole for suspension between them. Each head has an applied eye each side, a comb, and a beak with down-curving point. The ridges and the neck are decorated with cuts. This comes from Luristan and dates to c.1200-800 B.C. It is in very good state of preservation and is an attractive piece.' 65 grams, 37-39mm (1 1/2"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; collection number R-220, W-894, academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
