A coil of fine linen(?) cord tightly rolled and bound, with accompanying handwritten note 'July 25 / To Dr Walter J Dilling, Liverpool, England / Dear Sir / At the request of Mrs. / Gray I am sending to you, under / separate cover, a Persian sevenfold / cord which I hope will reach you / safely. Sincerely, / H. Whicker'. 6.07 grams, 37cm (14 1/2"). Ex North London gentleman; previously in the Walter Dilling collection, Liverpool, UK, and Windibanks auctions. A 'sevenfold cord' was used at the wedding ceremony of Zoroastrian couples to ritually bind the groom; the number seven has religious significance among the Parsee sect. [No Reserve] Fine condition.
