9th-6th century BC. A carved stone cylinder seal with figural scene; accompanied by a museum-quality impression, and a hand written and signed scholarly note issued by W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham 1970-1993, which states: 'Cylinder seal of white stone, 18 x 9 mm. Man with spear and ostrich. Syria, c. 900-600 B.C. Rare style, condition good. W.G. Lambert.' 2.36 grams, 18.64mm (3/4"). Property of a London gentleman; previously in the late Hassan Reyhani collection before 2000; acquired on the UK art market in the 1980s-early 1990s; thence by descent. Very fine condition.
