3rd-2nd millennium BC. A mixed group of drum-shaped stone stamp seals, including two accompanied by a typed and signed note by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology, University of Birmingham, 1970-1993 which state: (V-695) 'Bifacial Stamp Seal of Brown Stone, 8 x 8.5 x 4mm. This is a round disc with flat faces and vertical sides, through which it is pierced. Each face has a drilled design. The one shows a curling snake, the other perhaps a plant. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2500-2000 B.C. The edges are a little worn and chipped, but generally it is in fair condition.'; (V-693) 'Bifacial Stamp Seal of Brown Stone, 9.5 x 9.5 x 7mm. This is a round disc, with flat faces and vertical sides, through which it is pierced. Each face has a drilled design. The one shows a heraldic eagle, with head at the top, wings spread and tail feathers down. The other is not yet certainly understood, though it might be the protome of a horned animal. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2500-2000 B.C. It is in very good condition.' 34 grams total, 917mm (1/4-3/4"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; collection numbers V-681, V-682, V-683, V-684, V-685, V-686, V-687, V-688, V-689, V-690, V-691, V-692, V-693, V-694, V-695, V-696, academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
