Late 3rd-early 2nd millennium BC. A mixed group of bronze seals comprising: one formed as an openwork cross with arms curved to meet the one ahead, terminating in triangles, to the reverse, the arms terminate with cluster of four dots, from the bottom extends a round-section handle; one discoid with openwork design of concentric bands of petals, handle to the reverse; and three accompanied by typed and signed notes by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which state: 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 54 x 48 x 24mm. The shape of this seal is that of the design. it is with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted V-shape. The design consists of two pairs of joined crescents tête-bêche, with an oval with pointed tips between, supported by struts at each end. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It has been cleaned and is in very good condition save for the usual denting of the outer rims.'; (R-202) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 66 x 64 x 20mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of oblong shape, pierced at its base. The design is both compartmented and open-work. It consists of a kind of swastika, but with curving not angular arms, supported by struts within an outer band which has a scalloped edge. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is in good condition and has an interesting design. This swastika in this form was a religious symbol in this part of the world, also in Indus civilization of the Harappan type.'; (R-893) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 67 x 67 x 19mm. This is round, with scalloped edges, flat face and flat back on which is mounted a handle, pierced, of roughly oblong shape. The design is both compartmented and open-work. it consists of a central small circle, from which eight bloom-like motifs radiate surrounded by a circle of 18 irregular shapes and an outer band of 20 shapes ending in points, the whole being a kind of elaborate rosette. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is a large and imposing seal. There is earth and incrustation on the surface, which could be removed. One outer shape is damaged, and there are slight spot of damage elsewhere, but generally it is in good condition.' 270 grams total, 51-66mm (2- 2 1/2").
