2nd-4th century AD. A bronze military buckle comprising: a circular loop with ribbing; a D-section tongue with forward edge curved over the loop, transverse ribbing to the rear; discoid plate with concentric rings and surrounding roundels, three radiating pierced lobes and central hole to accept a fixing stud. See Appels, A. & Laycock, S. Roman Buckles and Military Fittings, Witham, 2007 for discussion. 27.2 grams, 82mm (3 1/4"). Property of a gentleman; acquired in the late 1960s-early 1970s. Fine condition.
