6th century AD. A silver-gilt ring comprising a cusped D-section hoop, triangular beast head to each shoulder with ribbed collar below, plaque with incised fleur-de-lys motif. See Menghin, W. The Merovingian Period. Europe Without Borders, Berlin, 2007, p.384 for similar beast-head ornament. 4.29 grams, 23mm overall, 17.67mm internal diameter (approximate size British O, USA 7 1/4, Europe 15.48, Japan 15) (1"). From an East London collector; previously in a collection formed between 1990-2000. Very fine condition, usage wear.
