19th-20th century AD. A silver bosun's whistle with cranked narrow pipe, flange to the underside, bowl with ribbed lateral surfaces and incised 'King's broad arrow'. 24 grams, 12cm (4 3/4"). Property of a gentleman; acquired in the 1970s. The 'King's broad arrow' was a marker of three notches cut into timber identified for use by the Royal Navy. It occasionally occurs on other naval items, as here. Fine condition.
