Description
Translation provided by Youdao
After 200 AD. Copying Rome mint issue. Obv: [IVLIA DO]MNA AVG legend with draped bust right. Rev: VENERI [VICTR] legend with Venus standing right, back towards spectator her robe lowered to expose buttocks, holding apple and palm, resting left arm on column. See RIC 536; BMC 27; Sear 6567 for prototype coin. See Hollard, Dominique, De l'Indus à l'Oxus Archéologie de l'Asie Centrale, Catalogue de l'Exposition 2003, item 286 and images 286a-b, for a description of this coin (printout included). 3.05 grams. It has been suggested that this copy originated in India; Roman aureii occur quite frequently throughout India and seem to have travelled there through trade from the time of the Roman Empire and they were apparently prized. This example has obviously been directly copied from an original of the type. []Near as struck; flan clipped.
