KRISHNA AND RADHA ON A COURTLY TERRACE Bundi, North Western India, late 19th century Opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper, the vertical composition depicting Radha in an anarkali-styled shalwar kameez and the blue-skinned Krishna caught in an intimate moment, sitting on a low-laying bed with fruits and drinks, accompanied by a coy woman modestly turning her gaze away, the scene set on a courtly terrace facing a lush garden with tulip fields and a charbagh (quadrilateral garden) in the background, framed by a later decorative floral border on ochre ground, mounted, glazed and framed, 31.5cm x 24cm including the frame. Provenance: UK private collection since 1970s.
