A PAINTING OF AN 'ALAM (PROCESSIONAL STANDARD) Deccan, Central India, first half 20th century Opaque pigments and gold leaf applied on a wooden board, the central subject a richly decorated processional standard (Âalam) with the names of Ali, Allah and Muhammad in circular and oval cartouches around the body, at the top a drop-shaped medallion filled with the bismillah, resting against a dark green background, one of the favoured and most highly regarded colours in Islam, bordered with a band of gold and red-painted floral décor, mounted on a wooden frame, 64.5cm x 50cm including the frame.
