Description
Translation provided by Youdao
19th century AD. A silver-plated bosun's whistle with cranked narrow pipe, flange to the underside, bowl with ribbed lateral surfaces and calligraphic inscription 'Roskilde'. 23.7 grams, 11.8cm (4 3/4"). Property of a gentleman; acquired in the 1970s; believed once part of the Thorsby Hall collection, Yorkshire, UK. Roskilde is the home of the Danish national museum for ships, seafaring and boatbuilding in the prehistoric to medieval period. The collection of vessels at the museum now exceeds 40 examples. It is likely that the whistle was associated with the museum's publicity and education programmes.
