A CHILONG WATER DROPPER, MING
China, 17th century. The conical vessel with its remarkably thin spout tapers towards a recessed base. A sinuous dragon arching its back forms the handle while vigilantly watching over a minuscule water inlet, its looped tail serving for suspension.
Provenance: Lowenthal Collection, nr. 150. Paper label to base. Hans Lowenthal was born in Frankfurt, Germany. His father Julius invented the first semi-automatic lighter in history in 1928 and named it Colibri. In 1953, Hans joined Colibri and was its Managing Director for 25 years. He enjoyed creating ingenuous products, among them the ‘Golden Gun’ of notorious hitman Francisco Scaramanga in the James Bond film ‘The Man with the Golden Gun’. Hence his passion for antique multi-functionality objects such as the present lot.
Condition: Fine natural patina with old wear, traces of use and minor nicks and dents here and there. Overall excellent condition.
Weight: 288.9 grams
Dimensions: Length from spout to handle 10.5 cm
