来源：日本私人珍藏本件器物选用上品白芙蓉石雕琢而成，质感温润，如脂如玉，包浆细腻。观音大士挽高髻，带风帽披于双肩，面庞饱满，双目微启，嘴角含笑，身披长袍，着长裙，半跏跌坐，右手持经卷搭于左手腕，衣纹随形体处理，简洁流畅，掩卷沉思，现于眉目之间，都因参悟经中佛理，掩不住心中无限欢喜。此尊观音大士手、足、发刻划准确、细致，高超的艺术性，对塑造对象神韵的把握，非普通工匠所能企及。持经观音为三十三观音之一。因手持经卷故名。相当于《法华经‧普门品》所载，“应以声闻身得度者，即现声闻身而为说法”之观音化身。此系因声闻乃听闻如来之说法而得道者，故以手持经卷表示之。
