Description

Late 3rd-early 2nd millennium BC. A mixed group of stamp seals, some accompanied by an old scholarly note, typed and signed by W.G. Lambert, late Professor of Assyriology, University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: (R-477) A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 17 x 18 x 11 mm. This has the shape of what it depicts, with a flat face and flat back ,on which is a pierced stalk handle. The design is compartmented and consists of a trefoil. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2200-1800 B.C. It is in very good condition.'; (B-7) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 16 x 16 x 9 mm. This is square with a loop handle on the flat, solid back. The design consists of four rectangles, one at each corner, and between each pair a figure with three straight sides, and a V-shape with point reaching the centre. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is in good condition, and the incrustation on it could be removed.'; (T-946) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 17 x 18 x 11 mm. This bears the shape of the design. It has a flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted U-shape. The face, which is compartmented, shows a quadrate cross with circle in the middle. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is covered with incrustation, which could be removed, but is a fair example of its kind.'; (T-846) A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 22 x 21 x 9 mm. This is round with flat face and flat back, on which was mounted a stalk handle, now mostly broken off. The design on the face done in raised lines within an outer rim and consists of a straight line dividing the circle, then two curving lines from it on each side, antithetically placed, and two short of the dividing line. This comes from west Asia and dates to c. 2200-1800 B.C. The piece is in fair condition: there is a nick in the edge as well as a broken handle, but the face is quite well preserved.'; (T-511) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 19 x 18 x 12 mm. This is roughly round, with flat face and flat back ,on which is mounted a loop handle of inverted V-shape. The design, which is part open-work, consists of a Greek cross within the circle. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2200-1800 B.C. It is in very good state of preservation.'; (T-431) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 24 x 23 x 20 mm. This is a round disc with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a large loop handle. The design on the face shows a central small circle and six spokes connecting it to the outer rim. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2200-1800 B.C. There is incrustation on the surface, which could be removed, bit the metal appears to be in good condition, and the only defect is damage to the rim at one point.'; (T-763) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 18.5 x 19 x 11 mm. This has a shape of what is depicted, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted V-shape with groove over it. This is a round, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted an angular pierced handle. The design, which is compartmented, consists of a central circle with three crescents resting on the circle, and this is separated from the outer rim by a band of eleven compartments. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. There is incrustation on the surface, which could be removed, but the metal appears to be in good condition.'; (C-22) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 20 x 21 x 11 mm.
