Chinese Qing Dynasty Period, Qianlong mille fleur double gourd vase. Potted in a shape of double gourd resemblance, with two bulbous bellies conjoined together, suspending a short cylindrical neck, bulbous lower section finishing into a slender bottleneck at the top, with a straight opening rim, raised on slightly short splayed foot base. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in purple underglaze base color which contrast against the mille fleur decorated design. The Mille Fleur decoration, meaning the "thousand flowers design" first appears in the late Yongzheng period becoming extremely popular in the Qianlong and was carried on throughout the subsequent Jiaqing and Daoguang periods, usually on a gilt ground. The dense millefleurs design features naturalistic blossoming peonies, chrysanthemums, hibiscus, morning glories, roses, lotus flowers, daisies, lilies and pinks amidst an abundance of foliage, the mouth rims with gilt bands, the bases and interiors often turquoise-enameled on older pieces. The Lines of the drawings are clear, the light and dark shades are subtle. The colors are harmonious, elegant and exquisite, the composition is sophisticated, simply a feast for the eye. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.
