Chinese Ming Dynasty Period, blue and white dragon pot. The Porcelain potted in the shape of pot, having thick potted body, large and sturdily potted in a bulbous body, slightly ovoid, straight neck with wide opening, raised on small flat splayed foot base. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white underglaze base color which contrast against the cobalt blue fine color. The main body decorated with several snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-shui waves in a dark blue color dragon squama rounded the bowl to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames. The upper open lip festooned with interlocking geometric pattern, enclosed and banded with double fine blue rings. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark grayish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim. A characteristic heaped and piled effect, the underglaze grayish-blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black. This inadvertently gave texture, energy, and shading to the design. The upper mouth rim bears a reign mark, a six underglaze blue script characters reign mark, Made In The Years of Wanli Reign Period of The Great Ming Dynasty.Height:19.5 inWidth: 20.63 inDepth: 20.63 in
