A gold cell mount with granulation to the sidewall, pierced for use as a bead; inset an earlier Old Babylonian (?) carnelian cabochon with intaglio combat scene between a robed male with a knife and a rearing lion. Cf. Collon, D. First Impressions. Cylinder Seals in the Ancient Near East, London, 2005, items 369, 370 for seal type. 3.25 grams, 20mm (3/4"). Property of a North London lady; gifted from her father's collection; formerly with a Mayfair gallery, London, UK; previously acquired in the 1980s.
